How to Get Started

First step:

Find out which BirdWatch Ireland branch is nearest to you and attend the next meeting or outing. Indoor meetings usually involve a talk, slide show or other presentation and there will be plenty of friendly faces on hand to welcome you. You don't have to be a BirdWatch Ireland member to attend any meeting or outing. Also, you don't have to live in the area to attend a particular meeting or outing. BirdWatch Ireland meetings and outings are open to all.

  • If you are in the South Dublin catchment area, a list of our upcoming meetings and outings is available online here.
  • A list of other branches in Dublin and around the country and upcoming meetings/outings is available online here at the BirdWatch Ireland HQ website.

Second Step:

Join BirdWatch Ireland - Full joining details are available online here at the BirdWatch Ireland HQ website. As well as contributing to conservation of wildbirds, you will also receive the excellent "Wings" magazine quarterly.

Third Step:

Get yourself some basic birding kit - binoculars, a field guide and a notebook are what you'll need to get going.
