Why Birding ?

  • Birding involves a range of exciting activities across varying levels and is all about appreciating and studying wild birds and enjoying wildlife and the outdoors. At whatever level or age, it's the perfect mix of recreation, mental stimulation and best of all, it's fun !
  • It's also a great way of meeting new people and getting back to nature. There are plenty of organised events and outings to get you started. An awareness and knowledge of wild birds will make even the shortest stroll in the park, along the beach or even into work come alive as you watch out and listen out for the goings-on above.  The turning of the seasons come alive as you watch out for the departure and later return of migratory species.
  • Birding leads into other related areas like conservation, field work and surveying, particularly if you get involved in a birdwatching and bird conservation group like BirdWatch Ireland.
