Baldoyle Estuary, Co. Dublin

Annex I species: Golden Plover, Bar-tailed Godwit, Sandwich Tern, Kingfisher.

Seasonal Interest:
Winter: Brent Goose, Shelduck, Wigeon, Teal, Pintail, Golden Plover, Grey Plover, Lapwing, Knot, Sanderling, Black-tailed Godwit, Bar-tailed Godwit, Curlew, Redshank, Greenshank, Turnstone, possible Slavonian Grebe.
It also has one or two of the expanding Little Egret population.

Summer: Shelduck, Mallard, Ringed Plover.

Spring/Autumn: Whimbrel, Sandwich Tern, Little Tern, occasional Green Sandpiper.

The old Race Course area and the Mayne River used to be good for wintering Short-eared Owl and Green Sandpiper. Merlin and Buzzard also occur. This area is now scheduled for development and features prominently in the Flood Tribunal.

Getting there Getting there ...

The DART (01-8366222) to Sutton on the Howth line for the eastern end of the estuary. To Portmarnock, on the Malahide spur, for the north side of the estuary.
By Dublin Bus (01-8734222) #32/32A/32B from Lr. Abbey Street to Baldoyle.
